English as a Second Language Auto-ethnography Sample Essay
My name is Jamal, and I was born in Saudi Arabia. Growing up, I spoke Arabic at home and in my community. However, when I started school, I was introduced to English as a second language. At first, it was a challenge for me to understand and communicate in English, but I was determined to learn.
I remember spending countless hours studying and practicing speaking English with my classmates and teachers. I also made an effort to immerse myself in the language by watching English movies, reading English books, and listening to English music. Over time, my proficiency in English improved, and I became more confident in using it.When I entered high school, I had the opportunity to study in the United States, an English-speaking country. This experience was a turning point in my English language journey. Being surrounded by native speakers allowed me to practice speaking and listening to English on a daily basis. It was also during this time that I realized the importance of being proficient in English in order to succeed in the global community.
Now, as a college student, I am proud to say that I am fluent in English. I am able to communicate effectively in both personal and professional settings. My journey to fluency in English has been a long and challenging one, but it has also been rewarding and fulfilling. I am grateful for the opportunities that speaking English has opened up for me, and I will continue to improve my language skills in the future.
Learning English as a second language has been a life-changing experience for me. It has not only improved my communication skills but has also broadened my perspectives and opened up new opportunities. I am proud to be a multilingual individual and will continue to cultivate my language abilities for the rest of my life.
