Tecumseh was an incredible leader and had finally brought the Indians together. If there had been more Indian leaders as successful and he was the Americans would not have had a chance. It was clear that the Americans knew that the Indians joining forces was detrimental to them. The video announces the fear in the Americans several times. Looking back, it is very sad how the land was taken because they were not enemies and Tecumseh would have been satisfied with an appropriate border, in fact Americans only survived early on by the help of Indians. It is interesting how his brother became so important to his cause and was able to overcome his situation by believing in his vision. I really thought that he would stand in Tecumseh’s place after his death.

Having hope, courage, and survival were some of the ways to show power and the greatest thing anyone could have was that. Tecumseh became the leader of the Shawnee tribe. As the Europeans began to move in, Tecumseh believed they had to fight for survival and hold on to their lands. He was very inspirational, and gifted. He fought for his belief and was a man of leadership that even his enemies looked up to. Tecumseh was thought of as a panther leaping across the heavens and just his sight had people looking up to him. His brother Tenskwatawa was more of a trouble maker and became an alcoholic, and abused his wife. After a close call with death Tenskwatawa came back with a new light and became a better man eventually leading him to become a prophet. Although Tecumseh had more success in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana, Tecumseh’s Confederacy failed. As much as he was able to unite the Indians to turn against the whites, many of the people following became defeated. This eventually led to Tecumseh’s death during the war of 1812.

Conflict is the essence of human nature. Even today in 2020 it still surrounds us. Wars waged all over the world, between Britain, France, Spain, Africa, etc. Even the Native Americans battled between each other, just on a much smaller scale without navy fleets, giant armies, or guns. During this time land was the key to political participation for colonists. They also viewed the Natives as uncivilized people who lacked religion, so they left them out of treaties and used them as pawns in war and slaves. Speaking to people who have different views with grace and dignity is not a concept that existed pre America nor does it exist today. Can you imagine a world where differing views are discussed amongst men respectfully and rationally? Tecumseh tried that and it got him no where. If we have learned anything from history its that no matter how eloquent or truthful your tongue is, the bigger and harder hitting opponent always wins. Native
