Toyota Data Breach Analysis
Toyota Australia is a top car dealer in Australia and has been a victim of data breach. The company on February 19th, 2019, confirmed to have experienced a cyber-attack, which resulted in its online presence knock out for days (Toyota, 2019). Even though Toyota claimed that the attackers did not manage to access sensitive information about the customers and the employees, the connection with customers and employees was significantly compromised. Although Toyota Australia has not said much about the attack since its occurrence, customers might still be worried about the instance or later successful attempts. The company did not provide substantial grounds for its claim on the belief that the effort was unsuccessful. The main cause of worry was that it took too long for the company to restore its systems to normal. This implies that the origin of the attack might have been so strong for easy management.From the incident, the company appears not to be well prepared for cyber-attacks. The statement that the problem took too long to be managed is an indication that, even though there is adequate monitoring, there is still a lot to be done in managing attacks. The effects of the attack hinted the probability of ransomware infection. The inability to block the malware from attacking the system insinuates that the company lacks an up-to-date antivirus software to protect the system from malware and viruses. Data breaches are a major threat to vehicle technology, mainly because the companies assume that their central role is assembling vehicles. As a result, companies do not do what they ought to do to protect their employees and customers. Car dealers should implement more data protective measures to shield their consumers as vehicles are becoming more connected.
