1. Why is the year 1947 significant in terms of American history and for Hollywood?

In the year 1947, several events took place in American Hollywood. These events mares the year as important as far as the history of Hollywood in America are concerned. First, in this year, cold-war sociologists started the move towards getting rid of the Hollywood left. Secondly, in the same year, the conservative strategy bearded significant benefits as far as it fought for the production of movies that were in line with the American way of life. More importantly, 1947 marks the year of approval of the film, Crossfire. In conclusion, these are some of the important events that exist in American Hollywood’s history.  

2. According to Naremore, did noir as a whole cynically reject politics and political engagement? Discuss why or why not with examples, quoting from the text.

According to Naremore, noir did no cyclically reject politics as well as political engagement. First, Naremore points out the existence of explicit politics in Hollywood. The existence of both liberal and socialist interests in the film marked the existence of politics. Since it is clear that politics exist in Hollywood, Naremore claims that there is no proof of noir cyclically rejecting the politics, “…there is simply no empirical evidence to support the notion that noir involved a cynical rejection of politics,” (Naremore, 2008, pp.6). According to their author, politics was one of the essential elements in American crime movies. That is why the congressional hunts for communists in the 1950s ventured on the relationship and impact created between politics and crime movies in America. 

3. Why did Chandler need to change his ending for The Blue Dahlia?

The need to change The Blue Dahlia is based on the fact that the film was subjected to particular errors and problems that posed a critical danger to the author. Therefore, the revision was necessary to provide solutions to the existing issues. The Blue Dahlia is termed as a troubled project to signify its weakness. 

According to the produces, Houseman, Chandler himself, is the bigger problem. According to him, Chandler rushed into the first half of the production and devoted himself to the end. In the production process, Chandler became less committed and stronger in the production, and he resigned at some point. After resuming the production of the film, some errors occurred underway. Another problem is that the United States navy failed to clear the project because the killer was an ex-serviceman and was disturbed mentally.
